Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

1. describe the purpose, structure and general terms and conditions of the timber tenure system in BC;
2. identify and comprehend the components of Forest Stewardship Plans, Cutting Permits and Site Plans;
3. perform economic analyses in the context of stumpage appraisal and timber operability;
4. effectively find and use relevant forest legislation and policy.
5. comprehend the BC timber appraisal system;
6. understand the Market Pricing System and the role of BC Timber Sales in making it functional;
7. describe major components of the Forest and Range Practices Act and how this legislation has influenced forestry practices in BC;
8. describe the scope and intent of some key regulations under the Forest Act, Forest and Range Practices Act and Forest Planning and Practices Regulation;
9. describe the processes and linkages involved in Forest Stewardship Plans, Cutting permits, and Site Plans;
10. understand Annual Allowable Cuts, timber supply, and economic analysis and be able to describe the relationship between all three;
11. understand the concept of value added and the issues surrounding it in BC;
12. understand the arguments surrounding the topic of raw log exports in BC;
