PEAC 305: Mediation Skills is an intensive week-long course that provides the student of transformative justice with practical skills in communication, mediation and conflict transformation. The format will be interactive � short lectures, discussions, case studies and role plays. The student will examine the concepts of power, culture, privilege in the context of communication, with a strong emphasis on listening skills.
Prerequisites: Admission to the Transformative Justice Advanced Certificate Program PEAC 203, PEAC 301, and PEAC 303.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- understand how culture, gender, power and privilege impact communication and conflict;
- demonstrate nonviolent communication skills, including empathy, compassion and listening, with an understanding of feelings, values, and needs;
- understand conflict from power, rights and interest-based perspectives, with an emphasis on strategies for achieving win-win solutions and nurturing relationships; and
- engage competently in all stages of a mediation process, as a facilitator.
Additional Assessment Notes: As a practice course, the learner will receive either a Credit Granted (CG) or No Credit Granted (NCG).
