APSC 120: Introduction to Engineering is designed to introduce learners to the engineering profession by way of invited speakers, tours, films and videotapes. Information will be provided on the profession, the branches of engineering, and the work conducted by practicing engineers in the different disciplines. The course will include field trips to various industries and guest lectures from practicing engineers.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- understand the academic and experiential requirements for designation as a Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist in the province of British Columbia;
- understand the ethical obligations of Professional Engineers and Professional Geoscientists in the province of British Columbia, and the responsibility to the public welfare;
- understand the role of the Professional Engineer and Professional Geoscientist in a variety of settings, such as industrial sites, consulting engineering organizations, and construction and research environments;
- identify the branch of engineering and geoscience that will be the focus of each learner’s academic pursuits;
- prepare resumes and letters of application for engineering and geoscience positions; and
- exhibit professional behaviours such as respect for colleagues, punctuality, willingness to think independently, and pride in presentation of work.
