BLCK 129: Advanced Techniques: Conceptualize and Create, this component introduces students to a broader range of Blacksmithing skills and techniques. Built on a strong foundation of Blacksmithing fundamentals, students' ability to conceptualize and create advanced forms will be increased through tool making and creative problem solving. Students will make a hammer and punches. Skills include power hammer techniques and Tooling.

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- develop and design tools and techniques in order to create desired outcomes in Metal;
- develop confidence and clarity in studio practices and culture;
- critiques samples and finished pieces with peers;
- develop use of project/job sheets keeping track of each project’s time, tooling, and techniques;
- use 65 lbpower hammer effectively;
- understand working environment in studio including safety procedures;
- understand the terminology of the Artist-Blacksmith language;
- understand creative thinking processes as they pertain to problem-solving in metal work;
- understand the use and value of a wide range of metal working tools and techniques;
- fabricate/forge punches and chisels in tool steel;
- heat treat tool steel punches and chisels;
- tong making
- advanced joinery; and
- efficient power hammer operation.
