Students will learn in a five week intensive how to make sculptural relief designs in aluminum using sand as a mold. First students learn how to make original patterns in two different materials which are then used to replicate their designs. This course teaches students general foundry practices and opens relationships with working foundries.

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

• develop original design compositions in sign foam and oil based clay.
• design and create foundry ready patterns, cast and finish work
• identify and distinguish between commercial, fine art and craft markets for metal casting.
- During the course students will be given direction in:
• fundamentals of foundry pattern replications
• application of a variety of cast metal finishes
• application of pattern sand-casting process
• development and enhancement of design and composition
• development of sculptural relief carving
• development, innovation and creativity for this medium in the current marketplace
