CCSW 195 Practicum I

CCSW 195 Practicum I provides students with an opportunity to work and observe in an educational or community living setting under the direction of college instructors and on-site staff. The focus of this practicum is to provide students with an opportunity to interact with children or adults with challenging conditions, to develop objective documentation skills and to observe the techniques and procedures used by on-site staff. This is a 17-day practicum beginning with two preparation days. A seminar, CCSW 179, will allow students time for integration of their work experience and peer support.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. practice objective documentation skills by producing accurate and objective daily recordings in their practicum workbook.
  2. understand the work routines, practices, philosophy and expectations of the setting in which they did their practicum placement.
  3. demonstrate their ability to self evaluate and take responsibility for their own learning through the development, implementation and evaluation of two learning goals.
  4. demonstrate field readiness as outlined in the competency check-list and evaluation form in the areas of: - personal accountability - interpersonal effectiveness - theoretical reasoning - technical competency

Grade Description
AAV ABOVE AVERAGE -The student has mastered all or most course objectives/requirements in a minimum time frame and has exemplified good work and study habits.
COM COMPLETE – denotes that the student has mastered a satisfactory number of course objectives/requirements in a non-credit course
CRG CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was satisfactory in a credit course.
NCG NO CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was unsatisfactory.
PCG PARTIAL CREDIT GRANTED – denotes that the student has successfully completed a portion of the course objectives in a credit course.
