GNUR 504 Nursing Lab - Basic Skills & Physical Assessment will provide the student with opportunities to learn and demonstrate skills in providing personal care and physical assessments. In addition, classes will focus on learning material that apply skills particular to the Canadian Health Care System and care of the older adult with an emphasis on assessment proficiency, psychomotor skills and documentation abilities. The simulation suite will be utilized to help expand the learning experience.

- provide an informed problem-solving process to the provision of care.
- use assistive and assessment equipment safely and correctly (lifts, slider sheets, vital signs, machines) that maintains safety for self and others.
- apply principles of dignity and safety when providing nursing care.
- utilize geriatric assessment tools in lab scenarios.
- implement principles of infection control and standard precautions.
- obtain an accurate health history utilizing effective communication techniques.
- perform a head-to-toe assessment thoroughly and accurately in a logical, systematic manner.
- document accurately according to BCCNP standards.
