Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- describe normal or expected physiological/metabolic changes in the gastrointestinal, renal, musculoskeletal, sensory, reproductive, and thermoregulation systems of the body as a person ages.
- describe and discuss select common chronic conditions associated with each of the above physiologic systems as a person ages.
- identify functional changes related to physiological change in aging body systems.
- identify risk factors that increase illness or disease progression.
- name and describe current treatment interventions for select chronic disease states or conditions.
- explain several compound effects of having an acute illness imposed on an aging body which has one or more chronic illnesses.
- provide responses to case studies, demonstrating application of knowledge about physiological function and/or particular chronic diseases.
- distinguish normal physiological changes of the aging human body from abnormal symptomatology or disease.
