GNUR 520 Practice in Complex and Community Settings

GNUR 520 Practice in Complex and Community Settings practice course provides students with an opportunity to apply the knowledge, skills and attitudes learned in all courses in the program to date and become ready to undertake the role of a Health Care Assistant in community and complex care settings. A portion of this nursing practice experience will be devoted to providing nursing care to individuals experiencing cognitive challenges and/or end-of-life needs.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. integrate and apply concepts studied in all other courses in the Leadership in Post-Graduate Diploma in a Gerontological Nursing program to date.
  2. develop individual strategies for learning based on learning goals mutually identified with instructor.
  3. develop caring relationships with older adults and families, focusing on people’s experiences of health and health promotion.
  4. demonstrate proficiency in all Health Care Aide (HCA) competencies.
  5. plan personal care and priority nursing assessments with clients within a Long Term Care setting.
  6. demonstrate critical thinking, good decision-making for nursing practice, and relational and health assessment skills with clients within a Long Term Care setting.
  7. function in the role of the professional geriatric nurse as a member of the health care team.
  8. exhibit competence and confidence in the field of gerontology.

CRG CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was satisfactory in a credit course.
NCG NO CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was unsatisfactory.
PCG PARTIAL CREDIT GRANTED – denotes that the student has successfully completed a portion of the course objectives in a credit course.
