NUCL 154 Admissions, Discharges and Transfers introduces the learner to the Nursing Unit Clerk's (NUC) role in admission, discharge and transfer procedures within the hospital. Information is given about antibiotic resistant organisms and isolation procedures, the Admitting/Registration Department and their role in admitting patients, and how the NUC interacts with this department. Using case study examples and actual forms, the learner creates an admission chart, a transfer chart and a discharge chart.

- Describe the NUC’s responsibilities when a patient is put on isolation
- Define abbreviations used for antibiotic resistant organisms
- State the reasons why a patient may transferred to another unit
- State the reasons why a patient may be transferred to a different facility
- Describe the duties of the NUC in admitting, discharging and transferring patients
- Create and dismantle a mock patient chart
- Prepare a mock patient chart for a discharge by transfer and a discharge by death
- State the NUC’s role in processing discharge orders
