SPAN 112: First Year Spanish I encourages students to improve their communicative proficiency through listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will reflect on and discuss thoughts and beliefs expressed by Spanish writers and their relation with our culture today.
Prerequisites: A �C� or better in SPAN 11 or SPAN 102/103 or equivalent. Note: This pre-requisite may be waived with the permission of the Instructor.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Understand an advanced-beginner to lower-intermediate level of Spanish;
- Ask and respond to questions, and participate in short conversations on a variety of topics;
- Express oneself orally and in writing in the present, past, and future tenses;
- Use pronouns effectively;
- Read and comprehend texts of low to medium complexity; and
- Refer accurately to geographical and cultural features of the Spanish-speaking world.
