TWC 252 Technical Writing & Communications for Aviation

Students will study and practice communication topics which are relevant to the professional pilot. These will include business formats, oral presentation, report writing, the job application process, and job interview techniques.

Prerequisites: Enrolment in second year Professional Aviation Program.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. To gain an understanding of the rhetorical situation which informs all modes of communication.
  2. To apply appropriate rhetorical choices to the writing of technical documents in a variety of genres.
  3. To compose effective technical documents for a variety of purposes and audiences.
  4. To apply elements of effective document design to written communications.
  5. To compose visuals that are informative and ethical.
  6. To effectively use persuasive appeals.
  7. To develop a clear, concise and professional writing style.
  8. To present an organized and engaging oral presentation.

Additional Assessment Notes: An "I" (Incomplete) grade may be given to a student who fails to complete the course requirements by the end of the semester due to illness or other valid reason, but only after consultation with the instructor. A "W" (Withdrawal) can be obtained by officially withdrawing from the course before the College deadlines for withdrawals. Otherwise, students who do not complete the course will receive a "DNW" (Did Not Withdraw) grade. If you decide to stop attending the course, it is very much in your interest to obtain a "W".
