Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

1. identify how finance builds on the disciplines of accounting and economics;
2. apply the time value of money and the concept of risk in the capital budgeting decision; and
3. understand and analyse a corporate annual report.
4. demonstrate the ability to prepare the three basic financial statements;
5. identify the limitations of the balance sheet and income statements, and the importance of cash flows as identified in the statement of cash flows;
6. calculate and interpret basic financial statement ratios;
7. prepare the three basic financial statements for forecasting the cash budget, and the pro forma balance sheet and income statement;
8. define, calculate and interpret financial and operating leverage;
9. identify the risks and opportunities involved in working capital management;
10. apply the concepts of liquidity and risk to current asset management;
11. understand the cost and availability of various short-term financings;
