ADMN 255 Corporate Finance

ADMN 255: Corporate Finance introduces you to finance concepts and provides you with essential knowledge of various tools used in corporate finance. You will examine the corporate financial environment and its impact on decision-making, introductory finance concepts (including the time value of money, investing and risk management) and distribution of earnings. In addition, you will look at capital budgeting techniques and short-, medium- and long-term financing decisions* (adapted from CPA).

Prerequisites: ADMN 252 or equivalent with a grade of �C� or better.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. determine the components and calculation of a firm’s cost of capital;
  2. evaluate internal, external, domestic and foreign sources of financing;
  3. calculate and critique the costs and use of bond, preferred and common shares, retained earnings, and lease financing choices;
  4. outline the organization of the securities markets;
  5. evaluate alternative corporate dividend policies;
  6. describe, outline the benefits of, and calculate the various values of convertible securities;
  7. identify the motives for and impact of mergers on share value and earnings per share;
  8. reduce the impact of foreign exchange fluctuations on investment decisions; and
  9. to work competently under pressure due to deadlines and tight time frames.
