MUSC 181: Ear Training II. A continuation of the skills learned in MUSC 180. The focus is on harmonically based melodies with larger intervallic skips. Rhythms are explored primarily through syncopated eighth notes, triplets and sixteenth notes. This ear training class provides an aural perception of MUSC 175, which is taught concurrently.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- conduct and sing in 2/4 time;
- sing and transcribe pentatonic melodies and melodies based on the leaps found in diatonic triads;
- sing all diatonic interval from the root of major and melodic minor derived modes;
- sing and transcribe syncopated 16th note and triplet rhythms in 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4 time;
- sing and identify all 7th chords;
- transcribe and understand diatonic seventh chord progressions and secondary dominant progressions;
- use relative pitch to enhance note identification of all chromatic pitches over a 5 octave range; and
- sing and identify all intervals within 1 octave.
