MUSC 281 Ear Training IV

MUSC 281: Ear Training IV: Upon successful completion of this course you have will have mastered basic aural skills for professional musicianship. The emphasis on this level is chromatic and modal melodies. Mixed meters and odd time signatures are explored. Emphasis is given to transcribing pre-recorded songs.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. conduct and sing syncopated 16th notes with ties, quarter note triplets and half note triples, quintuplets, sextuplets, septuplets and 32nd notes;
  2. sing harmonic minor, mixolydian b9b13, diminished, symmetrical dominant, whole tone, and blues scales in all intervals from the root;
  3. sing and transcribe modal and chromatic melodies;
  4. identify all triads, seventh chords, and ninth chords relative to tonic;
  5. transcribe and understand chord progressions and turnarounds using: modal interchange, substitute dominants, and, diminished chords; and
  6. use double note relative pitch to enhance note identification.
