NURS 112 Professional Practice I: Intro to Profession of Nursing

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

1. examine the foundational concepts within Selkirk College’s BScN curriculum with a focus on phenomology;
2. explain the critical components of academic integrity (AI);
3. demonstrate attributes of AI throughout all course work; and
4. compare historical nursing events to current trends and challenges within the Canadian health care system.
5. identify, examine and interpret qualities of self as a learner;
6. define professionalism and examine what it is to be a professional nurse;
7. utilize critical thinking, self-reflection and self-appraisal skills;
8. examine the historical and current image of nursing;
9. outline professional nursing organizations in Canada and begin to interpret their standards as they apply to nursing practice;
10. explain and analyze historical and gender perspectives associated with nursing;
11. explore ethics and health care law as they relate to your personal values and nursing practice as a whole;
12. summarize the roles and responsibilities of nurses in Canada;
