PSYC 101 Introductory Psychology II

PSYC 101: Introductory Psychology II covers topics include thinking and other cognitive processes, development of the individual, personality, mental disorders, health and social psychology. Other topics are added at the discretion of the instructor. Class demonstrations and activities are used to illustrate concepts. Teaching methods and resources in the course vary with the instructor.

Prerequisites: ENGL 12 or equivalent with a grade of �C� or better.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. apply fundamental psychology concepts and apply psychological models to human thought and behavior
  2. use psychological concepts to explain a variety of real-life situations and problems
  3. use effective communications skills [formal and informal] in a variety of contexts and formats
  4. reflect on and evaluate personal behaviors and thoughts, and apply this insight for personal development
  5. demonstrate skepticism and critical-thinking skills to assess the scientific value of information, opinions, etc.
  6. identify research methods that produce data that can be defended and trusted
  7. display the academic skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to achieve your academic goals. In particular, successful completion of this course is intended to prepare you for higher level University Psychology courses
  8. feel (even a little bit!) excited about learning in general, and about psychology in particular.
