Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

1. apply the principles of infection control and sterile technique during sterile product preparation;
2. identify actions that contribute to quality assurance and risk management when compounding sterile products;
3. demonstrate best practices and efficient use of workspace and maintenance of equipment; and
4. demonstrate professionalism upholding standards of practice, codes of ethics, and policies.
5. distinguish working areas and associated equipment used for sterile product preparation;
6. describe contamination control and systems in facilities;
7. describe the process for compounding a variety of sterile parenteral preparations;
8. identify equipment and practices that maximize personal safety and minimize environmental contamination when working with hazardous products;
9. manipulate equipment required for sterile compounding confidently;
10. interpret medication orders and verify the technical aspects of the prescription to ensure accuracy;
11. prepare sterile products in the Laminar Air Flow (LAF) Hood in accordance with federal and provincial legislation, regulations and standards;
12. package, label and store sterile product preparations in accordance with policies and regulations;
