Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. explain the basic concepts and techniques involved in selling and servicing a convention at a hotel/resort property;
  2. Explain the job duties and responsibilities of the special event planner, meeting planner, hotel convention manager and hotel sales manager.
  3. demonstrate how to coordinate the different departments in a hotel/resort to bestservice a function;
  4. utilize the Group Resume, Banquet Event orders, functions sheets and other tools used by Catering departments;
  5. utilize Meetingmatrix software to diagram different room set ups;
  6. analyze the appropriate type of food and beverage service for the various types of functions;
  7. explain the various audio visual products through group presentation and peer assessment;
  8. understand market segments and the sales forecast;
  9. Explain the basics of how to plan a special event or meeting;
  10. understand how to do a personal sales call; and
