RPM 220: Rural Health Issues III builds on the skills and knowledge acquired in year-one RPM courses, with a special focus on social and economic determinants of health. The course also seeks to develop students� empathy, self-awareness, and respect for diversity.
Prerequisites: Standing in year two of the Rural Pre-Medicine Program.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- knowledgeably discuss the social and economic determinants of health (SDH), their significance, and their relevance to the work of health care providers;
- identify priority interventions that address these SDH’s at the community level;
- demonstrate respect for diversity in terms of gender, mobility, physical and mental health;
- demonstrate an ability to shift perspective to try to imagine what others of different backgrounds and abilities are experiencing;
- articulate an appreciation of the complex challenges involved where profound cultural differences come into play in the delivery of health care.
