RPM 320 Rural Health Issues V

RPM 320: Rural Health Issues V builds on the communication skills learned and practiced in previous RPM courses. Throughout year 3 of the Rural Pre-Medicine Program, students will work on a health-related rural community applied research project, which may include local and international opportunities for experiential learning. In RPM 320, students will apply research knowledge and methodologies to create a community-based project proposal. Students will gain practical knowledge through a variety of hands-on skills such as teamwork, group facilitation, project planning and implementation, and teaching/learning.

Prerequisites: Enrolment in the Advanced Diploma in Rural Pre-Medicine (ADRPM) Program

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. develop a specific health research question to guide their research project;
  2. determine the applicability of qualitative and quantitative approaches to their applied health research project for their project;
  3. compliance comply with the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS2 and Selkirk College’s policy requiring approval for research involving human subjects;
  4. analyze their own interpersonal strengths and challenges in the research process;
  5. evaluate the diversity of group roles, individual strengths and talents in classroom and research settings;
  6. assess needs of individuals and small groups in health care settings; and
  7. apply theory and praxis to project planning, research and community health.

Additional Assessment Notes: RPM 320 is a CREDIT GRANTED/CREDIT NOT GRANTED (CRG/NCG) course. In order to pass the course, all assignments must be completed satisfactorily. An unsatisfactory grade in ANY assignment is grounds for failing the course.
