CWRT 101 Studies in Creative Writing II focuses the writer's efforts on crafting story. An in-depth exploration of scene development, characterization, setting, point-of-view, and the leading ideas in stories will prepare students to produce original compositions in any genre other than poetry. Students will be expected to submit original writing for workshop in at least two of the three genres being discussed. Writing essays and criticism on theory and form will continue.
Students seeking an Associate of Arts degree in English (Writing Studies) must take CWRT 100/101.

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- identify characteristics of dramatic writing such as scenes, monologues and soliloquys;
- understand the distinctions between forms of literature studies this term;
- establish a personal aesthetic framework in which to evaluate and discuss imaginative writing;
- write well-structured scenes and create compelling characters; and
- offer constructive criticism to help peers further develop their work.
