SSW 162 Community Resources is designed to assist students to prepare for practicum placement. Students will explore domains of practice and roles Social Service Workers carry in the Human Services.
Prerequisites: Admission to Social Service Worker Program. SSW 162 must be completed immediately prior to admission to SSW 163 (field work).

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of the needs of specific client groups including children, youth, women, and the elderly; as well as those with mental health and substance use problems and/or disorders and those living in poverty.
- gain a knowledge and understanding of the services provided by a wide variety of potential practicum placement sites.
- develop an awareness and understanding of the range and inter-relationship of government mandated services and non-profit society services in the Social Services field.
- develop an understanding of appropriate professional behaviors and will demonstrate an ability to consistently model appropriate professional behaviors in the field.
- demonstrate an ability to accurately observe and analyze resources and to integrate observations with theory being presented in other Social Service Worker courses.
- demonstrate readiness for field placement by demonstrating the ability to define appropriate professional and personal learning goals for practicum and by demonstrating both initiative and responsibility throughout the course.
