DA 122 Introduction to Digital Video and Audio grounds students in concepts and skills related to video and audio production. Students will explore the steps required to produce a short documentary or narrative film including: writing, shooting, editing, and mastering. Students will also explore the theory and practical application of sound in the contexts of web, presentation and digital video.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Recall common terms in digital video, including: frame rates, aspect ratios, and compression
- Demonstrate the ability to operate a digital video and/or Digital Single-Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera
- Demonstrate the ability to set up a location shoot including: lights and natural lighting, tripod, video camera, and audio recording equipment
- Plan, write and pitch a short script and treatment for the production of a short film
- Follow production steps to shoot a short film based on a script and treatment
- Edit and export a short film based on the script and/or treatment
- Describe basic concepts related to: the physics of sound, analog and digital audio, and the design and function of common microphones
- Describe the use of equipment used in a variety of contemporary sound recording and editing applications
- Set up and operate a variety of sound equipment used for video location recording
- Describe and use digital audio editing software (Adobe Audition) for basic recording, editing and mixing functions
