PGFS 107 Database Fundamentals and Design introduces the core principles of database systems, guiding student through the intricacies of different database types, data modeling, and normalization techniques.
The course focuses on key SQL skills, including query writing, data manipulation, and database structuring. Students will design and implement a database, from initial planning to final deployment.
Prerequisites: PGFS 106 with a minimum grade of 60%

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Apply key concepts and principles of database fundamentals, including data models, normalization, and indexing to practical situations
- Perform basic and advanced database operations, including creating, retrieving, updating, and deleting data from a database
- Recognize and apply data integrity and security principles in database design, including user access management, password policies, and encryption
- Understand the basics of database administration, including backup and recovery, user management, and maintenance, and will be able to perform basic administrative tasks on a database
- Apply database design principles to real-world scenarios and solve problems related to data management, by designing and implementing a functional database for a specific business
