SROM 156 Database Management

SROM 156: Database Management will encompass the basic concepts in the understanding, querying and maintenance of a database system using Microsoft Access 2016. Creating, editing and maintaining tables, queries, forms and reports are covered. In the second segment of the course students will study industry specific database management systems, investigate database needs for ski areas, research database use by various ski hills / resorts, and report findings to the class. Students will present their findings through group presentations.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. understand what a database is;
  2. create validation and text rules and specify referential integrity;
  3. order records on multiple fields;
  4. create and use indexes;
  5. integrate an Excel worksheet into an Access database;
  6. create/edit forms and reports and publish reports to the Web;
  7. enhance/edit forms both OLE field hyperlinks and subforms;
  8. create/edit/delete pictures;
  9. identify industry database needs and software systems; and
  10. research and report on industry database use.
  11. create, edit and maintain a table;
  12. create and modify reports and forms;
  13. create, run, update and delete queries;
  14. select criteria and sort queries;
  15. join tables;
  16. use computed fields and calculating statistics with a query;
  17. add/edit/delete records;
