WEB 107: Back-end Development Fundamentals takes students on a deep dive into the back-end systems that drive modern web applications so that they can gain a more holistic understanding of web development practices and tailor website content for individual users. Students will learn, practice and apply a scripting language, as well as use packages, frameworks, and application program interfaces (APIs) while working within an agile development environment. An emphasis will be placed on maintaining industry standards and best practices, and integrating agile testing practices to ensure security and efficiency. Students will apply and refine skills to develop a server-side web application.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of client-side and server-side rendering;
- migrate a server-side application.
- use best practices and write standards compliant scripting language;
- utilize an agile testing framework to ensure server-side code is secure and free of vulnerabilities;
- optimize server-side code to handle large volumes of traffic;
- demonstrate effective use of debugging tools;
- describe the difference between a Representational State Transfer (REST), Application Program Interface (API), and a Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) API;
- create, debug, test and distribute a package/library or module;
- utilize a framework to create a server-side application;
- make use of sessions to enhance user experience; and
