GNUR 548 Nursing Practice in Multiple Clinical Settings provides opportunities for learners to experience the various roles and responsibilities of nurses and other allied health professionals working with older adults in a variety of care delivery and community settings. Learners will have the opportunity to explore the mission, vision, values, and roles and responsibilities of community resources serving older adults, work as part of various interdisciplinary teams, collaborate with, and learn from, various service providers, and engage in health education, health promotion, injury prevention, and other evidence-based practice initiatives. Learners will also focus on consolidating basic and gerontological nursing competencies in a clinical setting.
Prerequisites: Completion of semesters 1-3 of the Post-Graduate Diploma in Gerontological Nursing

- Apply Miller’s Functional Consequences Theory (“Nursing Model for Promoting Wellness in Older Adults”) to the critically informed seniors care-planning and service delivery
- Apply principles and practices outlined in the BCCNM Professional Standards, Scope of Practice, and Practice Standards to all course activities
- Apply concepts, skills and knowledge from all previous courses in the role of student nurse in all learning situations
- Demonstrate appropriate critical thinking in decision-making processes by providing accurate and appropriate, evidence-based rationales for choices/actions
- Demonstrate appropriate time management and prioritization skills when working with one or more clients in a variety of clinical settings
