PGFS 205 API Development introduces the concept of creating useful connections between different software platforms using industry-standard tools and technologies. Students learn how to design, develop, and deploy Application Programming Interfaces and work with current web data formats, authenticate and authorize API users, and use API testing tools to ensure the quality of their APIs.
Prerequisites: PGFS 204 with a minimum grade of 60%

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Explain the core concepts of API development, including endpoints, methods, and data formats
- Create and deploy functional RESTful web services that meet a set of requirements or specifications
- Use the OpenAPI specification to create comprehensive and accurate documentation for APIs, including endpoint descriptions, request/response formats, and error handling
- Design and execute a test plan for APIs using popular testing tools, including functional testing, performance testing, and security testing
- Implement a range of security measures for APIs, such as authentication, encryption, rate limiting, and access control, to protect against common vulnerabilities and attacks
- Apply best practices and design patterns for API development, such as versioning, caching, error handling, and consistency in naming and documentation
