ECCE 193: Child Centered Partnership I, learners reflect on values, beliefs and attitudes toward building warm relationships with children. Understanding of self within the guiding relationship is developed. With the use of problem-solving techniques, students learn the skills of guiding and caring for children and creating emotionally safe, respectful environments that are empowering and that enhance friendships, responsibility, self-discipline, self-worth, and maximize potential.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- describe the role of the early childhood educator in child-centered developmentally appropriate practice;
- self-reflect, examining personal and professional values, beliefs, attitudes and assumptions about children, families, and early childhood services.
- provide respectful, warm and responsive individualized care, and communication;
- describe guidance relationships which support children’s self-regulation and self-worth, as well as problem-solving and social skills;
- recognize the relationship of environment and development on children’s behavior;
- utilize research in the area of human development and use the knowledge for working with children and families;
- describe theories of guidance and development of the child from conception to school age;
- describe variations in child development, appreciating the range of children’s development and abilities;
- explain implications of cultural, ethnic and socio-economic factors in children’s development patterns;
- connect developmental expectations to planning opportunities for all children within inclusive environments; and
