ECCE 179: Foundations of Professional Practice II provides an overview of the field of early childhood education from a philosophical perspective as influenced by both historical and current contexts. Students will examine anti-bias principles and approaches to working with young children. By exploring their own adult role in play environments, learners will integrate thinking regarding philosophies of least restrictive environments and inclusionary practice. Within the framework of the Early Childhood Educators of British Columbia (ECEBC) Code of Ethics, learners will develop an appreciation of the role of change in the lives of young children, their families and community, while at the same time honouring the importance of becoming a lifelong learner as an ECCE professional.
Prerequisites: ECCE 178 with a minimum �C� grade

- explain a diversity of program models in the care and education of young children and the connections of the models to educational and philosophical approaches;

- describe the legal parameters of child care related to policies and finances;
- explain the position of the child within today’s society;
- describe cultural, socioeconomic and family diversity;
- explain concepts and issues related to inclusionary practice and the parameters of least restrictive environments;
- and clarify professional roles in the work place and society.
