ESSI 04 Expression of Self through Sign

ESSI 04 Expression of Self through Sign 4, students practice a wider range of expressive Signed English, particularly more complex vocabulary, while integrating gestures, facial expressions, and accurate sign location. Students can develop critical thinking skills in a group setting and develop effective presentation skills that focus on self-expression.  

Prerequisites: ESSI 3

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Finger spell simple words and/or names.
  2. Manually count from 1-10.
  3. Express common non-manual markers.
  4. Sign complex common words independently.
  5. Sign partial sentences.
  6. Apply coping strategies.
  7. Apply strategies to overcome signing challenges.

Grade Description
AAV ABOVE AVERAGE -The student has mastered all or most course objectives/requirements in a minimum time frame and has exemplified good work and study habits.
COM COMPLETE – denotes that the student has mastered a satisfactory number of course objectives/requirements in a non-credit course
CRG CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was satisfactory in a credit course.
NCG NO CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was unsatisfactory.
PCG PARTIAL CREDIT GRANTED – denotes that the student has successfully completed a portion of the course objectives in a credit course.
