GNUR 535: Nursing Registration Readiness I

 

Please note that this is not an inclusive Nursing Community Assessment Service (NCAS)  preparation course and therefore, does not cover all age groups or health issues covered in the NCAS OSCEs.

 

Nursing Registration Readiness 1 provides an opportunity for learners to apply and consolidate nursing knowledge and skills into simulated scenarios. The virtual simulations and hands-on interactive lab setting will assist learners in putting theory into practice in partial preparation for the NCAS objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) and/or completing the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) gerontological nursing certificate, if desired. Scenarios will be based on the NCAS blueprints related to older adults which are aligned with the Canadian Gerontological Nursing Association (CGNA), BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), and Canadian Association Schools of Nursing (CASN) competencies for nurse’s working with this population. Areas of focus include: knowledge-based practice (assessment, planning, provision of care, evaluation); accountability, responsibility and ethical behaviour; collaborative practice; and therapeutic relationships. GNUR 545 will provide further registration readiness support in semester 4.

This course is a credited course using Credit Granted/No Credit Granted grading. In order to receive a Credit Granted (CRG), the student must demonstrate satisfactory performance in all course assessments as per policy 8612:

Prerequisites: Successful completion of semesters 1 and 2 of the Post-Graduate Diploma in Gerontological Nursing program.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. adhere to standard ethical principles in the provision of care to simulated clients.
  2. develop care plans for simulated clients using RN level knowledge.
  3. deliver care to simulated clients by integrating RN level knowledge, skills, and behaviours related to all domains of practice
  4. work collaboratively with members of the simulated interprofessional health-care team.
  5. apply principles of therapeutic and interprofessional communication when interacting with simulated clients and care teams.
  6. demonstrate principles of relational and client-centered care when interacting with simulated clients.
  7. evaluate care choices using critical analysis and evidence-based practice approaches.
  8. assess personal practice using reflection and various methods of self-assessment.
  9. assess knowledge by practicing and reviewing NCLEX based exams relevant to the topics covered.

Grade Description
AAV ABOVE AVERAGE -The student has mastered all or most course objectives/requirements in a minimum time frame and has exemplified good work and study habits.
COM COMPLETE – denotes that the student has mastered a satisfactory number of course objectives/requirements in a non-credit course
CRG CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was satisfactory in a credit course.
NCG NO CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was unsatisfactory.
PCG PARTIAL CREDIT GRANTED – denotes that the student has successfully completed a portion of the course objectives in a credit course.
