NURS 431 Nursing Practice VII: Engaging in Leadership. This nursing practice experience provides opportunities for participants to further develop their competencies in the areas of leadership, influencing and managing change, and the utilization of research for the purpose of promoting the health of individuals, families, communities and society, within the context of the Canadian health care system. This nursing practice experience focuses on participants� growth in their practice as professional nurses. They have opportunities to explore inter-professional practice and nursing leadership in the context of emerging Canadian and global health issues and trends.
Prerequisites: Promotion to study Semester 7 of the Nursing program.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- critically reflect on leadership characteristics, of both self and others in practice.
- utilize leadership and research theories to create a plan for personal practice project development, implementation and evaluation.
- examine the health care system in the context of nursing practice and community based change to design a leadership project related to a health care issue and articulate, verbally and in writing, the significance of the issue.
- evaluate personal growth in the application of nursing knowledge to a leadership project.
- utilize teaching and learning strategies to build effective knowledge translation tools including posters, conference presentations and written work to showcase the learning from the leadership project.
- utilize nursing research and leadership approaches when practicing in interprofessional and intersectoral teams.
- apply interdisciplinary evidence to improve/advance patient outcomes or to advocate for change.
- establish relationships throughout the research process with participants and communities.
