SPAN 102: Beginner's Spanish I is an introductory language course designed for the absolute beginner with little or no knowledge of Spanish. The focus of this course is to help students become functionally proficient in the Spanish language through the development of the basic communication skills speaking, listening, reading, and writing, as well as the study of vocabulary, grammar, and culture.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- aurally understand some common and basic phrases, expressions, and descriptions in Spanish;
- orally express themselves in the present tense in Spanish, as demonstrated though proficiency in their ability to extend greetings, describe things, ask simple questions, and give replies;
- read and comprehend basic information and simplified texts;
- write simple sentences in the present tense in Spanish;
- understand very common and basic grammatical structures; and
- gain familiarity with Spanish-speaking cultures.
