NUCL 146 Hospital Orientation introduces the learner to hospital departments, staff and communications, with emphasis on the role of the Nursing Unit Clerk (NUC) as the communications coordinator for the nursing unit. Information is given about processing physicians' orders for patient care, confidentiality and ethics, hospital codes, coping skills and technology in the workplace.

- Identify various interdisciplinary staff members and their roles
- Determine the Most Responsible Physician (MRP) for a patient
- Describe the role of the NUC within the nursing team
- Demonstrate a professional demeanor in regard to ethical issues and communications
- Name and define the standard codes used in hospitals
- Identify typical challenges of the workplace and apply appropriate problem-solving strategies to effectively deal with them
- State how to safeguard and improve personal health and wellness in the workplace
