IEP 276: Ecological Restoration and Remediation will cover applied ecological restoration and remediation techniques common in the environmental planning and management fields. Restoration project planning and implementation will follow techniques developed by the International Society for Ecological Restoration (SER). Topics covered will include restoration research, project scoping and plan development, field data collection, plant propagation techniques, project implementation in the field, routine and intensive monitoring, and report preparation. Learners can expect to be in the field every day and working on data collection and synthesis during the evenings. This is an intensive 32-hour course offered in a one-week time block in the spring semester.
Prerequisites: Successful completion of the common first year SEG courses or permission of the Chair of the School of Environment & Geomatics. Normally all first-year courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- design and follow an ecological restoration plan from building a theoretical concept to planning, and then to implementation and monitoring;
- work effectively and efficiently as a team;
- collect natural plant material for transplanting and understand ethical means of wild plant collection;
- work safely, observing and using all safety procedures outlined for the given project;
- demonstrate punctuality, attendance, and interest; and
- communicate effectively and professionally with peers, faculty, and community members.
Additional Assessment Notes: Grading for field schools is CRG (Credit Granted) no NCG (No Credit Granted). CRG is based on the following criteria (some criteria may change depending on learning activities): *Attendance (note that attendance is required for every day in field school unless approved beforehand by the School Chair). *Professional behaviour: prepared for work, on time and engagced in activities (e.g. asking questions of faculty and other individuals invloved with learning activities, active participant in team work, and underaking all restoration activities. *Submitting work assignments incluidng field notes and project plan. Failure to complete all portions of the field school course will result in a grade of NCG and the requirement to return the following year to complete the course.
