WS 100: Women�s Studies I is an inter-disciplinary course designed to introduce students to the study of women in global cultures as portrayed through literature and sociological studies. Topics to be covered include the women�s movement, sexuality, �herstory,� gender roles, philosophy, and law.
Prerequisites: English 12 with a grade of "C" or better. Note: This pre-requisite may be waived with the permission of the Instructor or School Chair.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- describe the historical development of women's movements and their influences on contemporary issues, in North America and globally;
- develop awareness of environmental issues and sustainable solutions;
- demonstrate critical thinking skills and formulate your ideas both verbally and in written form;
- analyze the complex relationship of women to current issues such as popular culture, globalization and environment;
- propose thoughtful solutions to contemporary challenges facing women in Canada and globally; and
- exhibit professional behaviours such as respect for colleagues, punctuality, willingness to think independently, and pride in presentation of work.
- distinguish between related concepts such as gender and sex;
- identify how gender roles are socially created;
- use concepts to critically evaluate the world around you;
- demonstrate their ability to generate written arguments supported with quality academic materials from appropriate databases;
- research and analyze evidence from scholarly and professional publications;
