DA 104: Introduction to Digital Photography provides an overview of the digital camera and related equipment, digital workflow and basic image manipulation in Adobe Photoshop. A strong emphasis is placed on how to compose compelling photographs using frame and perspective. It introduces shutter speed, aperture and exposure as a means of manipulating the creative outcome of an image. Topics also include light, depth-of-field, focal length, ISO and white balance. Students must have a digital camera with aperture (Av or A), shutter speed (Tv or S), AND manual (M) modes.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- explain terms and concepts related to digital photography;
- apply the elements of composition to take effective photographs;
- capture images that demonstrate use of visual weight, balance, and tension;
- describe how the focal length of a lens relates to lens type and field of view;
- critique the composition of a photograph;
- explain how the use of shutter speed, aperture, exposure, and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) affect the outcome of a photograph;
- use exposure bracketing to capture high dynamic range (HDR) images;
- demonstrate creative use of exposure, shutter speed, aperture, focal length, and ISO; and
- produce a collection of mounted prints that communicate a visual story.
