Overview

Program Summary

Our health care system needs professionals who want to practice in rural, remote, and Indigenous communities. Moreover, professional health programs are specifically looking for students who have lived and studied in rural areas. Take the first steps toward a fulfilling career in the health sciences while studying in the relaxed environment of the beautiful Kootenay mountains.

Our comprehensive program in the health sciences pairs academic excellence with mentoring and community service opportunities providing you with the support you need to apply competitively to medical school as well as programs in pharmacy, dentistry, optometry, veterinary medicine, and more. Students develop strengths in leadership, resilience, communication, and service ethics that equip them to excel as they move forward along their various paths.

Program Outcomes

In addition to achieving the outcomes of the University Arts and Science program, graduates of the Advanced Diploma in Rural Pre-Medicine will:

  • Be prepared to apply competitively to a variety of professional health care program including MD Programs
  • Develop academic and non-academic qualifications needed when training to become health care professionals
  • Understand unique characteristics of rural health care including the challenges facing rural communities and the benefits of practicing in a rural community
