PGHM 155: Computer Applications will provide the student with a general introduction to computers and Microsoft application software.� Setting up and using email and Moodle is emphasized, as assignments will be submitted to the instructor via this venue. The student will also explore and utilize the web and/or online libraries, searching for information for class assignments. In the second segment, the student will assimilate the basics of Microsoft Word with regards to correct formats for posters/announcements, r�sum�s, research papers, envelopes, letters, tables and newsletters including all page and print enhancements. Form letters, mailing labels and directories are also covered using the Mail Merge function. The third section will cover the basics of Microsoft Excel, using a number of commands to enhance a worksheet, chart sheets, templates and graphs.� Page and print enhancements will also be utilized. The final section covers the integration of Word and Excel.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- demonstrate skills using email, Moodle and internet/library exploration;
- demonstrate managing of files, folders and shortcuts;
- use Microsoft Word to: create, save, edit and print posters/announcements, letters, résumés, research papers, tables and envelopes using font/paragraph formats, proofreading tools, tab settings, bulleted/numbered lists, borders/shading, clipart/text art, footnotes/endnotes, headers/footers, watermarks and converting table data to a chart and create and execute form letters using Mail Merge
- use Microsoft Excel to: define a worksheet file and worksheet chart, create, save, and print a worksheet file using such formatting skills as entering formulas, 3-D cell referencing, auto format, naming sheets, changing column widths, inserting/deleting rows and columns, copying/moving/deleting data, formatting a range of values, changing fonts, adding borders, using headers/footers, setting commas and currency styles, print in landscape, web queries, creating/sorting/querying a database and creating templates, create, edit, save and print an embedded chart, use formatting commands such as, 3-D view, titles, fonts, exploding a pie slice, and moving and naming sheets and create financial functions, data tables, amortization schedules and hyperlinks.
