PTEC 119: Computer Skills for Prescription Processing is a hands-on introduction to the management of patient, doctor and drug database information using pharmacy computer dispensing software. Students apply concepts learned in prerequisite online courses of the program and pharmacy environment case study scenarios to create computer database information. The emphasis of the course is on importance of accurate and complete database information to support product distribution. Concepts explored in this course are used as the foundation for the PTEC 115 Dispensing lab and PTEC 116 Compounding lab. There is an emphasis on the demonstration of ethical, legal and professional standards while exploring the learning outcomes of the course.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- create, maintain and select accurate patient, doctor and drug profile records needed for product distribution, to assist in promotion of patient health and ensure patient safety;
- create and maintain accurate pharmacy records for security and permanence and for generation of reports;
- create and maintain up to date drug inventory records that support effective and efficient product distribution; and
- demonstrate ethical and legal standards of the profession while applying principles of professionalism.
