PTEC 109 Pharmacy Practice I

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

1. describe the evolution of practice for pharmacy technicians and current collaborative practices aimed to promote health and achieve client health goals and drug-related needs;
2. define confidentiality and identify actions and practices that protect patient privacy;
3. utilized drug references to accurately identify generic and brand name drugs with the goal to ensure safe product distribution and make evidence informed decisions; interpret and accurately apply medical terms, abbreviations, and symbols used in prescribing, dispensing, administering, and record keeping;
4. read and interpret prescription orders accurately, transcribe instructions, and understand drug labeling and packaging information;
5. demonstrate a working knowledge of drug dosage forms and route of administration;
6. identify procedures and techniques required for sterile and non-sterile compounding, common sources and causes of contamination, and actions to prevent contamination; and
7. describe common medication errors, factors that contribute to medication errors in practice and actions to prevent errors and promote safety.
