PTEC 113 Introduction to Aseptic Technique

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

1. identify critical sites required for sterile product preparation;
2. identify vertical and horizontal laminar air flow systems;
3. identify and name parts of a syringe and its critical sites; and
4. discuss quality assurance and documentation requirements associated with sterile preparation.
5. describe procedures and principles that apply to aseptic technique;
6. identify therapeutic, physical and chemical incompatibilities;
7. interpret common routes of parenteral drug administration;
8. identify sources and factors that contribute to contamination in sterile product preparation;
9. interpret requirements for an aseptic preparation area and describe practices to maintain the sterile environment;
10. describe safety issues for protective equipment, waste disposal and spill clean up procedures for sterile product preparation;
11. describe equipment and supplies required to prepare drugs or parenteral use;
12. perform hand washing and gloving technique in a sterile environment;
