ECCE 195 Practicum I

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

1. be well prepared and take initiative to work effectively with young children and their families adhering to philosophy, policies, procedures, and routines of the program and to professional expectations.
2. apply principles of interpersonal communication and professional ethics in developing and facilitating positive interpersonal relationships and collaboration with young children, staff team members, families, classmates and instructors.
3. consistently relate to each child in their care in responsive, respectful, warm and nurturing ways and use and adapt principles of guidance with each child.
4. demonstrate a thorough understanding of the nature and sequences of normative development.
5. observe and compile information about children’s interests, development, learning progress and family as a basis for communication with families and colleagues and for planning and adapting learning experiences that are developmentally appropriate and recognize and respect cultural, socioeconomic and family diversity in all aspects of care.
6. create and maintain safe environments that are conducive to young children’s health, growth, development and learning.
7. engage with children in their daily experiences (particularly in play) as a way of valuing those experiences and promoting each child’s development.
