NURS 316: Health and Healing V: Complex Health Challenges builds on Health and Healing I and II and Health Sciences III and IV and provides opportunities for participants to build on their nursing knowledge and understanding of health and healing in relation to complex episodic and chronic health challenges. This advanced course will focus on current topics and emerging knowledge related to a variety of health care contexts.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- integrate existing and emerging knowledge and application of program concepts as they relate to client situations and the practice setting;
- interpret data in order to evaluate effectiveness of decision-making, teaching and learning and interventions.
- develop and apply a process of analyzing and understanding a variety of complex health challenges as they apply to individuals, family and groups;
- identify and consider the relationship between multiple health challenges, the provision of nursing care, its impact on the client and apply this knowledge in the provision of client care;
- identify and utilize appropriate resources that foster client self-efficacy and empowerment;
- develop and perform increasingly advanced assessment and psychomotor skills in order to safely integrate them into the practice setting;
- incorporate expanded community and societal contexts in the provision of complex health and healing processes;
- make use of collaborative group processes in order to demonstrate teamwork, professionalism and leadership in the expansion of new knowledge and learning;
- develop a process of nursing inquiry based on ways of knowing and evidence informed practice;
- evaluate and adapt an understanding of knowledge through critical reflection; and
Additional Assessment Notes: O University regulations can be found in the University Calendar under the heading "Evaluation of Student Achievement". A final grade represents the sum total of the marks for the assignments. If the final percentage includes a decimal of 0.5 or higher, the mark will be rounded to the next higher figure for example 66.5 increases to 67.0.
O Determination of final grades for the course: In order to receive credit in NURS 316, learners must pass the individual theory and nursing skills component with a mark of "C" (60%) or greater. To be eligible to pass this course, the student must obtain a minimum of 60% on the Nursing Skills Competency Appraisal and an overall course mark of at least 60%. If a student is initially unsuccessful in obtaining a minimum of 60 % in the nursing skills competency appraisal, the appraisal may be repeated once for a maximum mark of 60%. In the event that a student is not successful in obtaining 60% after repeating the nursing skill competency appraisal, the student�s status will be reviewed with the potential for being be unable to progress in the nursing program. Inability to achieve the required mark indicates that the student requires further study and practice and is not prepared to progress to Healing VI.
