BLCK 121: Shop Culture: Safety and Devices will introduce students to shop culture and to safe operating practices for all tools in the shop. Students will be given an overview of the two metal certificates (Blacksmithing and Metal Casting) and will start to develop the skills necessary to proceed into BLCK 123: Fabrication Techniques: Welded Forms.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- demonstrate the ability to safely operate all tools and equipment, understand the practices of the Metal Shop, and perform basic forging exercises; and
- through a series of assignments completed with the instructor present, students will demonstrate the ability to work co-operatively in a hot, busy, shop environment, demonstrate competency in the safe use of shop tools (including consumables removal/replacement), and demonstrate foundational forging skills.
