PTEC 109 Pharmacy Practice I

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

1. describe the evolution of practice for pharmacy technicians and current collaborative practices aimed to promote health and achieve client health goals and drug-related needs.
2. define confidentiality and identify actions and practices that protect patient privacy.
3. utilized drug references to accurately identify generic and brand name drugs with the goal to ensure safe product distribution and make evidence informed decisions; interpret and accurately apply medical terms, abbreviations, and symbols used in prescribing, dispensing, administering, and record keeping.
4. read and interpret prescription orders accurately, transcribe instructions, and understand drug labeling and packaging information.
5. demonstrate a working knowledge of drug dosage forms and route of administration.
6. identify procedures and techniques required for sterile and non-sterile compounding, common sources and causes of contamination, and actions to prevent contamination.
7. describe common medication errors, factors that contribute to medication errors in practice and actions to prevent errors and promote safety.
