This course is an introduction to sewing techniques, machine and hand finishing, stitching and textile manipulation for fashion, costume, wearable art and 2 and 3 D objects. Sewing techniques include; seams, hems, edges, buttonholes, zippers, mixed media piecing, appliqu�, beading, embroidery, reinforce fabrics, collage, design and sew collars, cuffs and pockets. Students will learn to design and plan projects, make small patterns and prototypes and construct Wearables. This course also includes fibre identification.

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Plan and design a project
- Start a notebook and plan an inspiration board
- Sew seams, hems, buttonholes, edges, appliqué, embroider
- Design and sew pockets, collars and cuffs
- Apply mixed media piecing, beading, hand and machine stitching
- Design, sew and construct a garment by integrating sewing /manipulation techniques
- Identify basic natural and manmade fibres
- Make prototypes
- Manipulate the medium of cloth into 2 and 3 D objects
